The Code for Baukultur

The Code for Baukultur of the Institute for Corporate Governance in the German Real Estate Industry and the Federal Foundation of Baukultur.

The term Baukultur encompasses the sum of all human activities that change our built environment. It concerns the architectural, functional and constructive design of buildings, urban and settlement planning, the shaping of landscapes, infrastructures and public spaces. Baukultur is also process culture and thus also concerns the path that leads to a “good result” as well as preliminary investigations and negotiations on the shape of the built environment.

In its role as project developer, planner, builder, owner, etc., the real estate industry bears particular responsibility for the design of our living spaces. At the same time, building culture values and social acceptance form the basis for economic success. The companies of the real estate industry therefore see the necessity to commit themselves to building culture within the framework of the possibilities given to them and on their own initiative. With their commitment to the Code for Baukultur, they undertake to comply with the principles set out in the Code as part of a self-regulatory process.
